General Info
All Trail Riding Classes
$110 for Eight 90 minute sessions @ North Park
$70 for Four 90 minute sessions @ Hartwood Acres
Ensure your riders’ bike is in working order before attending class
Have your rider in a properly fitting helmet
Must wear closed toe shoes
Bring a spare tube that fits your riders wheel & water in a pack or attached to the bike.
We ride rain or shine. In the rare event of a cancellation, classes do not get rescheduled.

*Our main goal is to have fun, we also want to keep everyone safe. The coaches reserve the right to move riders to a lower level class if the rider lacks biking or listening skills required for class. Level 1 riders that are not yet ready for class requiring 1 on 1 attention for the duration of class will be subject to a private lesson fee of $50/hour
Level 1 MTB
Level 1
Get ready for an entire month of outdoor biking fun! Classes have evolved…Our Level 1 program has 3 different subgroups (Beginner-Advanced) to ensure the best fit for your rider. These classes are designed for those who have little to no experience riding singletrack trails, up to those knocking on the door of level 2. In this class we will be riding over various terrain (dirt/gravel/grass/rocks/roots) improving riders’ ability to use their gears and brakes, working on balance and trail vision to conquer new trails. Riders will strengthen their bodies, build confidence and friendship with other adventurous kids in this active and exciting program.

(Beginner 1's)
1 full year of two wheel pedaling experience
Ability to mount, dismount and start moving without assistance
Ability to stop on command
Ability to ride on pavement in a straight line both up and down gentle hills
Enough balance to navigate over or around small obstacles
At least 6 years old
(Intermediate-Advanced 1's)
2+ years on two wheels
Gear shifting on command
Hand Brakes both front and rear
Strength to climb steady long hills repeatedly
Able to ascend and descend out of the saddle
We all love new bikes… but be sure your rider can do ALL the above before attending class with a new bike.

Level 2 MTB
Level 2
Ready for even more thills on two wheels… Our Level 2 & 2.5 classes ride farther + faster, and is only for those who have experience on singletrack trails. This class will ride separately from the Level 1 class, learning more advanced techniques so we can move faster, safer! With our new skills we will be on more challenging trails with steeper grades, more rocks and roots exploring different parts of the North Park trail system to improve everyone’s abilities accordingly while having fun with friends!

Your rider has participated in Level 1 and/or...
Can safely keep the pace of fellow level 2 riders for 4-5 miles per class both up and down hills
Can navigate tight turns (360' in a parking space)
Can ride basic technical terrain (rocks/roots 6-10" off the ground)
Shifts gears proactively
*We want to keep everyone safe and the flow of class consistent. We need to move riders back and fourth between groups at times to achieve this.

Must have a dedicated mountain bike with gears
Must have hand brakes for both front and rear wheels
Must be able to stand on level pedals down uneven terrain and climbing
Shifts gears in anticipation of climbing and descending
A perfectly fitting helmet
Ages 8-16
We all love new bikes… but be sure your rider can do ALL the above before attending class with a new bike.
Level 3 MTB
Level 3 & 3+
You’ve made it to the TOP. Trail Adventures Level 3 class is the most advanced level (so far…) as we ride everything North Park has to offer. This class is for the dedicated rider who can keep a steady pace uphill and loves to rip it down!

Your rider is comfortable with steep and/or technical descents and climbs. Has the ability to go over obstacles at least 8 inches high and has basic bike maintenance knowledge.

Mountain bike wheels must be 24″ or greater*
Must have taken the Level 2 class*
Proficient at changing gears
Able to ride at a steady pace for the entirety of class with short breaks along the way
Ages 10-16
If your rider has not participated in the Level 3 class before, Coach Cody’s approval is required. You may speak with Coach Cody during a Level 2 class or email him directly before signing up for class at cody@trailadventurespgh.com
